FAQ & Installation
Do ZPitome sensor covers affect wireless signal or detection performance?
No. ZPitome covers are designed to have zero impact on your security sensor's wireless performance. Covers are made from thin plastic and do not contain any metallic material that could interfere with radio frequency signals used by wireless sensors for communication.
The cover fits over the exterior of the sensor only, it does not touch or alter any internal components. Thousands of customers have used ZPitome covers without any reported impact on connectivity, range, or alarm reliability.
If you ever notice any issue with sensor performance after installing a cover, the cover can be removed in seconds without any tools or adhesive removal.
Will the cover block the LED indicator light or prevent me from pressing the test button?
No. ZPitome covers feature precision cutouts aligned with sensor LED indicators and test buttons. The LEDs remain visible through the cutout, and buttons functionality is retained. For example, covers for Ring sensors feature C shaped cutouts, and SimpliSafe covers feature an LED cutout and small side hole for pin press of button.
The cutout design was developed through extensive testing to ensure the cover adds aesthetics without taking sacrificing any functionality. This is one of the key differences between ZPitome's original design and lower-quality imitations.
How do I change the battery cover installed?
ZPitome covers are easily removed to access your sensor and replace the battery when needed.
Can sensor covers be used outdoors?
ZPitome standard covers are designed and tested for indoor use on interior-facing doors and windows for aesthetics. They are open back and do not provide any waterproofing. Covers are made from high-quality non-toxic plastic that is durable in typical indoor temperature ranges.
We also offers weatherproof cover sets for outdoor or exposed installations, such as gates, garage doors, or windows in humid climates. These outdoor kits feature thick-walled high temperature plastic, o-ring compression seals, and small plastic bags for extra sealing. Weatherpoofing is provided for the sensor unit, while the smaller magnet unit contains no electronics and does not require waterproofing.
If you are interested in weatherproofing kits not posted here, please contact ZPitome directly. Custom solutions may be available for your specific setup.
What colors are available for ZPitome sensor covers?
ZPitome offers eight colors, ranging from lightest to darkest:
White · Beige (light tan, for natural unstained wood) · Pine (light brown for lightly finished wood) · Oak (medium brown, pairs well with golden oak stain) · Chocolate (deeper brown for stained wood — the original color) · Espresso (darkest brown, for deeply stained or dark wood) · Anthracite (very dark gray that reads as near-black in some lighting) · Black (matte finish, most popular).
Black is the most popular color by a significant margin, and all sensors are in-stock and ready for shipment in black. Less popular sensor brands are not listed in all of the above colors, but are available as custom orders at same cost. Custom orders are typically shipped within one week.
All colors are produced in a premium matte finish. All covers are also paintable using standard wall, trim, or spray paint; two coats are recommended for full coverage.
How do I choose the right color Ring sensor cover for my door or window?
Start with the dominant color of the surface where the sensor is mounted, not the door color, but the specific trim or frame where the sensor sits. Sensors are usually mounted on the door frame or window stop, not the door itself.
For black window frames or dark metal doors: choose Black. For natural wood frames: choose Beige or Pine depending on the depth of the grain. For stained wood in golden-honey tones: Oak is typically the closest match. For walnut or darker stained wood: Chocolate or Espresso. For painted doors or metal windows in very dark gray: Anthracite.
If you're uncertain, White is the most paintable option, you can apply any trim or wall paint directly to the cover for a perfect custom match. ZPitome also welcomes direct messages for color consultation before you order.
Can I paint Ring sensor covers to match my exact door or trim color?
Yes. All ZPitome covers are made from plastic with texture that accepts standard wall paint, trim paint, and spray paint. Two coats of paint are recommended for full, even coverage.
The White cover is the most popular choice for painting, as it provides the closest base to most light wall and trim colors. For darker custom colors, starting with a Black or Anthracite cover and painting is typically unnecessary, but it is possible.
When painting, remove the cover from the sensor first, allow paint to dry fully before reinstalling, and avoid getting paint in the LED/button cutout area.
Why are security system entry sensors only available in white?
Security system makers designed its sensors in white as a neutral default intended to blend with the most common interior wall color. This works well in homes with white trim, white doors, and light-colored window frames, which historically represent the majority of residential interiors.
However, as black window frames, dark-stained wood doors, and bold-colored trim have grown in popularity as design trends, the white sensor has become an increasingly visible eyesore on darker surfaces. Security system manufacturers have not adapted to provide color options.
ZPitome was founded specifically to solve this problem. In 2022, founder Adam had his home windows replaced with black frames and realized that reinstalling bright white sensors on black windows was simply not acceptable aesthetically. After testing various solutions, he developed the original entry sensor cover: and ZPitome was born.
Are ZPitome covers the original product, or are there knockoffs I should be aware of?
ZPitome invented this product category in 2022. Since then, multiple copycat products have appeared on Etsy, Amazon, and other platforms. While we can't speak to their quality, our covers are differentiated by precision fit (tested against real sensors before shipping), matte finish quality, the LED/button cutout designs, and direct customer support from the founder.
ZPitome is a Star Seller on Etsy with 500+ reviews and an average rating above 4.9. On Amazon, our listings are fulfilled directly by ZPitome and backed by a satisfaction guarantee. When in doubt, check the review count and seller history.

How are sensor covers installed?
Installation is tool-free and takes seconds per sensor. The cover slides over the top of the sensor and holds in place with just-right friction: secure enough to stay in place, but easy to remoe when needed. No adhesive, no screws, no disassembly of the sensor required.
Important note: covers can be slightly harder to remove when the sensor is not mounted to a surface. We recommend installing sensors on your door or window first, then sliding the cover on. This gives the sensor a stable base while the cover slides into position. Leave about 1-2 mm of clearance around the sensor.
The magnet cover installs identically; slide over the magnet unit and it stays in place through friction fit.
How many covers come in a ZPitome order?
ZPitome sells covers in sets. Each set includes a cover for the sensor body and a matching cover for the paired magnet unit. So one 'set' covers one complete sensor installation.
On Amazon, ZPitome's Ring cover listings are available in single and five-packs. Bulk discounts are also available on the ZPitome website (zpitome.com) for orders of 5, 10, 15, or 20 units.
